  4-1 4-1) Tire inflation pressure

Tires support the overall weight of the vehicle, and are the only automobile parts that directly contact the road.
Because as a practical matter, it is the air inside the tire that supports the load, the inflation pressure determines the tire's ability to withstand load, and affects a vehicle's driving performance, maneuverability and passenger comfort, etc. The tire delivers its optimum performance when the inflation pressure is maintained at the level specified in the vehicle owner's manual. All recommended tire inflation pressures are specified for "cold" tires (tires that have not been driven on for at least one hour or less than one mile).

Remember that the vehicle manufacturer, not the tire manufacturer, determines the correct inflation pressure for the tires on the vehicle. Also remember that the inflation pressure must be measured with a good quality air pressure gauge.

4-2 4-2) Mounting and demounting tires

Mounting and demounting a tire from its rim can be dangerous and should be done only by trained personnel using proper tools and procedures.

(1) Mounting a tire on to a rim.

  1. Ensure that the tire is of a suitable design to fit the rim.
2. Ensure that the rim is clean and in good condition. Inspect the valve and, if damaged or deteriorated, replace it with an appropriate type
3. Place the wheel on a tire fitting machine, with the narrow bead ledge uppermost.
The wheel should be centered and securely fastened on the tire fitting machine by the clamps.
4. Always use a recommended bead lubricant on both beads seats in order to avoid bead fitting damage.
5. Fit the bottom bead over the flange first followed by the top bead.
6. Install the valve core and release the fitting machine clamps.
7. Inflate the tire, but do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure specified by the tire manufacturer for that tire.
8. Make sure both beads are properly seated by checking the rim line in the bead area of the tire. If not, completely deflate the assembly and reposition the tire on rim.
9. Adjust the inflation pressure and make sure that there is no air leakage.
10. Install the valve cap.

(2) Demounting a tire
  1. Always remove the valve core to ensure complete deflation before demounting from rim.
2. Break the tire beads from the rim flanges.
3. Place the tire/rim assembly on a tire fitting machine, and be sure that the narrow
ledge of the rim is uppermost.
4. The wheel should be securely fastened on the tire fitting machine by the clamps.
5. Removing the tire beads from the rim flanges should be done carefully.
If the beads do not readily separate the rim flanges, lubricate with bead lubricant.
6. After the beads are free from the rim flanges, the bead area should be lubricated again.
This makes it easier easy to remove the tire from the rim without damage.
